Eco Club of Multani Mal Modi College organizes Herbal Plantation Drive
A Plantation drive was undertaken by Eco Club of Multani Mal Mal Modi College, Patiala under the aegis of National Green Corps Programme, 2021-22 sponsored by State Nodal Agency – Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST) and supported by Centre for Restoration of Ecosystem of Punjab, Punjabi University, Patiala and Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. In this drive 49 herbal saplings having medical importance and other ornamental plants belonging to 25 separate species were planted in the Botanical Garden of the college. Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar initiated the tree plantation drive and addressed the students. He expressed his concern regarding large scale deforestation and appealed to the students to actively engage in plantation drives and raise awareness regarding the same in their neighborhoods.
Dr. Ashwani Sharma, Registrar of the college said that the main motto of this drive was to provide insights into the importance of medicinal plants. Dr. Sharma also explained the uses of few medicinal plants which are native to Punjab. The drive was undertaken by student members of the Eco club. Dr. Ajit Kumar, Controller of Examination and faculty members of Department of Botany and Zoology were also present on this occasion.

ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਈਕੋ ਕਲੱਬ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਹਰਬਲ ਪੌਦੇ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ
ਸਥਾਨਕ ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਈਕੋ ਕਲੱਬ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਗਰੀਨ ਕੋਰਪਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ 2021-22 ਦੇ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ-ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਮੁਤਾਬਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਸਟੇਟ ਨੋਡਲ ਏਜੰਸੀ (ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਟੇਟ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਫਾਰ ਸਾਇੰਸ ਐਂਡ ਟੈਕਨੌਲੌਜੀ) ਦੀ ਸਪੌਂਸਰਸ਼ਿਪ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾ-ਭਰਾ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਹਰਬਲ ਪੌਦੇ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਹ ਮੁਹੀਮ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ, ਜੰਗਲਾਤ ਅਤੇ ਜਲਵਾਯੂ ਮੰਤਰਾਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਂਟਰ ਫ਼ਾਰ ਰਿਸਟੋਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਆਫ਼ ਈਕੋ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਆਫ਼ ਪੰਜਾਬ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ। ਇਸ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਰਗਤ ਦਵਾਈ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪੌਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਸਜਾਵਟ ਵਾਲੇ ਪੌਦਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ 25 ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕੁੱਲ 49 ਪੌਦੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਬਾਟਨੀਕਲ ਗਾਰਡਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਾਏ ਗਏ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਦਾ ਆਗਾਜ਼ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੇ ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਟਾਈ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਵਿਗਾੜਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜਾਗਰੂਕ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਹੈ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਅਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਹੋਣ, ਆਮ ਜਨਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਗਰੂਕ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਨਤਕ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਵੱਧ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਪੌਦੇ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਰਜਿਸਟਰਾਰ ਡਾ. ਅਸ਼ਵਨੀ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਵ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਬੀਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਇਲਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪੌਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਉਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਨੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਣਾ ਸੀ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਪਲਬਧ ਤੇ ਆਸਾਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਗਾਏ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪੌਦਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੀ ਚਰਚਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਈਕੋ ਕਲੱਬ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪੌਦੇ ਬੀਜਣ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਡਾ. ਅਜੀਤ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵ-ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਤੇ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸਨ।
